• Slow-very slow maturity, over a week slower than Rockstar, similar to LRPB Beaufort
  • Best suited to the higher rainfall environments of Victoria and south east SA
  • AH quality classification
  • Competitive grain yield in longer season environments
  • Relatively compact canopy, giving good standability in high yield potential situations

Breeders comments

Willaura has been released in recognition of the growing need for slower maturing milling wheat varieties suited to higher rainfall environments, offering growers in Victoria’s Western District and North East, and SA’s lower South East more marketing flexibility at harvest coupled with competitive yields.

Willaura (tested as V12167-048) is a slow-very slow maturing AH quality variety, reaching head emergence over a week later than Rockstar and is well suited to high yield potential environments characterised by longer growing seasons.

Both AGT and NVT data show that in early season trials Willaura offers competitive yields with other milling grade varieties that are used in these environments.

As a LRPB Beaufort alternative, Willaura offers similar maturity, slightly lower yields but an AH quality classification, allowing growers to access milling grade markets.

Relative to established milling varieties LRPB Trojan, Rockstar and Catapult, Willaura offers a similar disease package, but with a slower maturity, and will better suit environments with a longer, drawn out growing season.

Compared with new variety Stockade, Willaura offers a higher quality classification (AH versus APW), improved stem rust and powdery mildew resistance, and similar maturity; although is slightly lower yielding in some environments.

Willaura has a relatively compact canopy and good straw strength, giving it good standability in high yield potential situations.
